Photography is my passion.  I’ve spent a considerable amount of time searching for the perfect photo. You know, the one you see in magazines that jumps out with brilliant colors, fascinating subject matter and flawless composition. After literally hundreds (read thousands) of shots (thank the Lord for digital cameras) I’m still searching. But, that’s the fun, right? Here are a couple of my latest efforts.  I’ve been working on composition and am seeing a little improvement from earlier photos.  I have discovered that almost anything can produce a good photo and I try to be constantly looking for them.  This, of course, gives me an excuse to carry my camera everywhere I go.  That’s my new Rule #1.  Rule #2 is similar to the woodworkers rule that a good woodworker cannot have too many clamps; a good photographer cannot have too many lenses.  The problem with this rule that clamps cost $30 to $70 for good ones, lenses start in the hundreds and reach several thousands of dollars.  Alas, I’ve had to limit myself to one good carry around lens, one good telephoto and one 50mm prime.  Not a bad thing, but sometimes limiting.  Rule #3 is take many pictures of the same thing, using different angles, composition, and depth.  Sort out the good ones later.  More examples of photos at Creative Hearts On Fire link or http://www.creativeheartsonfire.com.

July 31, 2010 – Here’s a photo I took at at rest area on Interstate 29 near Omaha, NE.  Goes to show your camera should always be close by.  The time was about 6 am just as the sun was coming up.

August 15, 2010 – Here’s a photo of and old barn on my daughter and son-in-laws place in South Dakota taken about six a.m. when the light was about perfect in between rain showers.   When I was playing around with the barn picture, I stumbled onto a robins nest with a late born baby robin waiting for its mother to come back, which she did shortly after this picture was taken.  Mother and baby are doing fine.
